About Living Well Iowa and our web site
The Living Well Iowa program and this web site are part of
Iowa's Disability and Health Initiative, which focuses on:

  • Promoting the health of Iowans with disabilities

  • Promoting the health of Iowans with ongoing health concerns

  • Preventing secondary conditions

Living Well Iowa has three components:

  1. Living Well with a Disability, an 8-session course created by the Rural Institute on Disabilities at the University of Montana.

  2. Continuing to Live Well with a Disability, a 4-session refresher course developed by Disability Policy Consultant Cherie Clark, with support from the Center for Disabilities and Development, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

  3. Staying Healthy and Living Well, a 10-session course for students 16-21, developed by staff of the Center for Disabilities and Development, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. This is currently being piloted in schools and youth programs across Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Public Health is the lead agency for this 5-year initiative. It is funded by the Disability and Health Team of the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDC).
